Serenity was once in a prestigious stable, but other than a show she didn't want to do here and there, all she did was produce foals. Foals she would never know- goals who would hardly remember their dam. They were always taken from her, and as such, she grew depressed, until finally she'd had enough and escaped from the stable.

However, the world wasn't as nice as she had thought it would be.

Serenity encountered dragons, and though she is a valiant and daring mate, she was not stupid. The dragons would roar a challenge to her, recognizing her as their enemy of the horse world, the brave Nordanners. But she refused to answer the call to challenge, and this struck a blow to her self esteem each time she turned to run from a fight. Serenity no longer felt the will to live after long, and one night decided to just lay down and give up. 

However, fate had other plans.

The next day, as the sun was rising and the forest was still dark, Diagon Alley came waltzing down the forest trail, happening upon Serenity. Alley was also an escape artist, however, after the first few escape attempts, the humans at the stable realized that she would come back on her own, given time. So they stopped chasing her.

Alley approached Serenity warily, until she began to recognize the markings and soon realized that the mare she looked at had a very big name... Deadly Serenity.

"Serenity?" Alley whispered, startling Serenity to spin around and face the newly arrived mare.

"Do I know you, filly?"

"I'm hardly a filly now..." Alley trailed off, before picking up another tangent. "You're the dam to Blod Man who sired Left Behind. Left Behind is my dam. Which makes you my great granddam..." Alley paused again, and then shook herself to remember her manners. "Forgive me, my name is Diagon Alley, Alley for short. May I ask what you are doing out here and all alone? Surely you should be at your stable?"

Reminded of the foals she had never grown to know or love, Serenity became grumpy, and snapped "I could ask the same of you, so maybe you shouldn't ask. My business is not of your concern."

Alley was a quick mare, both on her feet and on her tongue. "Well, my stable allows me to roam- I mean, yes I escape, but I like it there, so I always go back. The humans have stopped chasing me and trust me."

Serenity's ears perked up at this. "You like it? They do not use you? Steal your foals? They allow you to roam outside the fences? What place is this?"

"Well, I've only recently arrived. I used to live in a stable that did those things. I suppose the place I'm at now, Avarair, is sort of like a retirement place. But you don't have to be old or broken to be there. They have plenty of foals- with their dams, different breeds, and the humans listen to us. We aren't forced to do what we don't wish to."

"Really? So I could be in the company of others... But do what I want?" Serenity pondered this for a little while. "I supposed I could always find a new home if I don't like it..."

"So you'll come?" Alley asked, beginning to be excited.

"I'm tired, and would love to rest my head in peace for a night, no dragons. I will give this stable a try."

Alley almost squealed in delight- to no longer be the sole cemophora at the stable, and that of her own great granddam! Alley began to nearly change leads like in dressage as she pranced down the path in the woods, heading home.

The sun had risen some ways, and sunlight streamed through the canopy, lighting up the trail as though it were indeed a sign. Serenity sighed, and though still uncertain, turned and began to follow her descendant down the trail.
